Type Two

My spring fever is acting up again, so I think I'll indulge everyone in another excerpt from my ongoing work Understanding Femalia: A Handy Taxonomy of the Female Species. Actually, Femalia is the genus, but "Species" sounds better for the title. Publishers. Go figure.

Attractiveness can be broken into two broad categories: cute and hot. Some use these terms interchangeably, but I will assume the position that they are distinct entities, although they need not be mutually exclusive. As is the case with virtually everything, these qualities exist on a continuum with varying degrees of overlap.

I will begin with "Hot" as it is the simpler of the two. Hot also frequently goes by the term "sexiness", and in some ways, this term does a better job at describing it. Hot is, in its most basic form, sexual attraction. It is a reaction that springs from the loins. It is immediate and intense. The first thing that a guy thinks when he spies a hot woman is something along the lines of "I'd like to hit that." Women that lean closer towards the "Hot" end of the scale also tend to intimidate meeker males. Despite this fact, hot is often the more desirable trait for which men look. Hot tends to lead to flash-in-the-pan relationships that are mostly sexual in nature. Hot, as the term implies, generates heat, leading to the potential for both warmth and burns.

Cute is more complex and much more difficult to define. Part of the trouble is that cuteness is much more subjective than hotness. It includes more than purely physical attraction. Cute encompasses a greater degree of a girl's personality. Many men describe cute women as, "long-term relationship" material. This is in no way meant to imply that cute girls do not possess sexual appeal; quite the contrary. It is merely a different type. Intimacy is more closely tied to cuteness. Cute is applied to many other things besides females, such as puppies, babies, and stuffed animals; imagine these types of images, then add the desire to procreate with them and you will have at least some understanding of Cute.

So, to summarize: you'll want to screw a hot chick all night, but once its over, you'll want to snuggle with a cute one.
